AILEEN, 2nd Validation Workshop Draws Over 90 Experts

The 2nd Validation Workshop, focused on advanced manufacturing skills for the Aerospace & Defence (A&D) sectors, and was successfully held on October 7th in Coventry, UK, by the MTC. The workshop was a significant success, attracting an audience of over 90 participants made up of speakers, external experts, and industry professionals. Their expertise was crucial for aligning the new training content with high-level industry requirements.

The highly specialized technical content and strategic vision were delivered through keynotes and expert presentations by distinguished guests:
• Role of AM in Defence: Alex Champion (Project Manager AM DE&S - MoD UK) discussed the essential role of Additive Manufacturing (AM) within the UK defence sector.
• AM & Sustainability: Jason Gilmore (AM Expert, Airbus D&S) provided insights into Additive Manufacturing and Sustainability.
• Sustainability in Defence: Wg Cdr Jon Mcmahon (MOD) spoke on the topic of Sustainability in the Defence sector.
• Advanced Welding: Steve Jones (Joining Lead, HVMC) presented on Advanced welding in aerospace & defence.

Following the presentation, the main objective of the workshop was achieved: to gather external expertise to review and validate the new training courses under development. The curriculum validation, consisted of:
• Expert Review and Feedback on Competence Units (CUs) related to advanced manufacturing technologies (PBF and DED).
• Review of CUs covering inspection applied to additive manufacturing, digital technologies, and sustainability.

The comprehensive exchange ensured the technical relevance and suitability of the AILEEN training framework for the A&D ecosystem, thus marking an important step towards the courses proposals finalization.
