AILEEN presented the training framework during the 1st AM Village Preparatory Meeting, held in Albacete, Spain, from 21st to 23rd October.
The 3rd AM Village initiative, is driven by the European Defence Agency (EDA) and the Ejército del Aire y del Espacio (Spanish Air and Space
Force), focusing on Additive Manufacturing (AM), as a key enabler for military logistics.
The initiative's main purpose is to identify military use cases where AM technology can provide effective solutions, and to strengthen
cooperation between industry, academia, and the armed forces. This crucial gathering successfully assembled key stakeholders—primarily representatives from the European defence industry and armed
forces—to address the critical integration of AM into the European defence sector.
Among the strategic contributions presented, the AILEEN initiative received a central focus, highlighting its essential role in:
• Skills Development: Developing the required skills and know-how in Defence through education and training.
• Standards & Qualifications: Grounding qualification efforts on the International Additive Manufacturing Qualification System (IAMQS).
• Capacity Building: Emphasizing that robust AM training is essential for ensuring successful capacity building for both the industry and the armed forces.
The meeting laid important groundwork for the collaboration required to advance AM within the European defence framework. Our consortium
acknowledges the efforts of all partners involved, for pushing industry collaboration towards a successful AM Village 3rd edition.
